March 31st, 2008

clarks13.jpgFor shoes that form to your foot and feel good from the first day that you wear them, you do not have to look any further than the Clarks Men Sandler Black Leather. What a great shoe. These Clarks shoes are always made with the foot in mind. They design shoes that ensure that your feet will feel comfortable and cool throughout the entire day. They are designed to absorb the shock of every step so you feet will not have to endure this pounding. I have always sworn by Clarks shoes and these shoes are not an exception.

Coming back to reality, I have to always consider my choice of dress shoes. Johnston and Murphy makes a nice pair of dress shoes. My favorites are the Johnston&Murphy Burks Moc-Toe Black Calf. Normally, this company makes very nice classic dress shoes, but this pair is a little more contemporary and we think that you will like them a lot. It has the signature comfort system used by the shoe company. Whatever you choose, you should not go wrong with any of these fine pairs of shoes.

Bostonian shoes are renowned for their classy style and their comfortable construction. I like the Bostonian Mens Black Leather Marco.

Clarks Wallabees: Clarks Mens Regatta Brown Leather

March 28th, 2008

clarks25.jpgThere are always new and interesting shoes that you can find on this site. I love to look at the new selections from Clarks Wallabees. Their Desert Trek and Boot are some of the more classic looks, and you can be sure that I really think that they are sharp, but this company also comes up with some really contemporary designs. I also recently found out that they make a boat shoe. These are some of my favorite shoes to wear They typify that easy going attitude that I am all about. These shoes are called the Clarks Mens Regatta Brown Leather and they are an especially sharp pair of shoes.

When it comes to dress shoes, I usually do not go with Clarks Wallabees because they are known more for their casual shoes. I like Bostonians as my dress shoe choice and they have many great pairs to choose from. Just look at the Bostonian Clinton Burgundy Leather. What a sharp looking pair of shoes. Men’s dress shoes need to work well with business suits and this pair certainly does. The best part is that I can find all of these great shoes right here.

Clarks shoes: Clarks Men Rider Brown Leather

March 27th, 2008

clarks12.jpgThe people at Clarks shoes make some pretty impressive dress shoes. To anyone who knows anything about shoes this comes as no surprise. But what might surprise some people is the fact that Clarks shoes has a more rugged side to their line of quality foot wear as well. They’ve even come out with a Clarks Men Rider Brown Leather boot that straddles the line between classy and sporty while managing both. It looks suited to both outdoor and indoor excursions and all day adventures.

The boot comes with several options that make it special. Not the least of which is a dual instep that allows for a secure personal fit while making it easy to get the shoe on or off. The Clarks Men Rider Brown Leather also comes with a shock-absorbing Ortholite footbed that reduces foot and leg fatigue for all day wear.

The boot resembles the Clarks Wallabee Boot Black Suede only in color as the Clarks version is a much more durable looking unit that’s designed more for the outdoor angle. Still the Clarks’ Rider model would look at home in the dining room as well as the hillside.

The Shoe Industry in the U.S. part 2

March 26th, 2008

clarks24.jpgGrocery Store Windows

Midway through the eighteenth century, a Welshman named John Adams Dagyr started the first American shoe factory in Mass. For the very first time, the division of labor was instituted in a shoe shop. This enabled each worker to perform one specific function in the making of a shoe much the same way as the Clark Wallabees line is made today. During this period too, the making of unordered shoes for stock was gradually introduced to keep workers busy during idle times. The shoes were then sold by displaying them either in shop windows or grocery stores with a percentage of the sales going to the shopkeeper.

Top Quality

The first real step toward the mechanization of the process took place in 1845 with the invention of the rolling machine which was used to soften leather and improve its wearing qualities. In the following year the sewing machine was invented and this proved to be one of the inventions that set the shoe world clearly on a path that ended with the kinds of top quality products we see today like the Clark Wallabees lines. As well, during the same period there was a movement toward the standardization of shoes sizes that made mass production even more feasible.

The Shoe Industry in the US

March 25th, 2008

clarks5.jpgThe shoemaking industry in the United States had its beginnings in 1629 when English shoemakers came from England to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The tools they brought with them to the new world consisted of curved awls and many of the other tools that had been used in the industry since 1300 BC. The kind of technology that would ultimately result in the shoes like the Clarks Wallabees line were still a long way off.

American shoes

Surprisingly enough, in the first 200 years of shoemaking in America there were few advancements. When they were new, the right shoe was often indistinguishable from the left one in the early days. Knowledge of the trade was handed down through the apprentice system. It was common for a shoemaking apprentice to travel from village to village and even house to house to make the necessary repairs. Again, one needs to remember here that they didn’t have any as comfortable as a pair of Clarks Wallabee Low Top Brown Oily Leather to make those rounds with. Gradually as settlers began to spread inland, shops for these repairs and sales began to develop.

Roman Wallabees? Part 2

March 25th, 2008

clarks-4.jpgBy the middle ages there was a movement toward shoes that looked more like the Clarks Wallabees that we see today. Although there was another trend toward the pointed shoe that we see today, among the wealthy, laced leather shoes that were highly polished were popular. Later on, the soft pointed leather slipper became very popular among the aristocracy, and for outside a low wrinkled boot called the estival was worn.

Queen Victoria

By 1836 a shoe was made for Queen Victoria with a piece of triangular cloth inserted at the sides and rubber was first used in the heels in 1850, although the full rubber heel did not come into use until almost the turn of the century. By the 1920s, the high shoe, both laced and buttoned, had gone out of style and slippers and Oxfords appeared in a wide variety of new fashions. If we’re tracing the exact roots of when a shoe that closely resembled the Clarks Wallabees line first appeared, it would be here. During WWII leather shoes were scarce and many substitutes including plastics were developed for use. This was another development that had a lasting effect on today’s lines of footwear. Today’s modern shoes have past that goes back to times we might not have imagined.
