Shoes: The Legend and History

When you see a pair of Clarks Wallabees, you might be surprised to find out that these shoes that are an integral part of the clarks originals line that go all the way back to the 1960s in England. If you dig a little further, you might be even more surprised to find out that the history of shoes themselves goes back so far back that there wasn't even a country called England when the first pair of shoes were slipped on. Still throughout the history of dress, shoes have played an important role.

Even in the world of make believe, it was a glass slipper that brought Cinderella her prince; who knows how quickly he might have showed up if she'd been able to entice him with a pair of Mens Clarks Desert Boot Black Jamaican. However that part of history might have played out, most of the people who wore the earliest shoes made them from woven rush, bark, hide or skin that was tied to the foot as a protective sole. In northern parts of the world where more protection was needed, pieces of skin or hides were brought up around the foot in folds and generally bound with a thong. Too bad that clarks orginals weren't around at the time or they'd have been able to get themselves a pair of Clarks Desert Trek Brown.

Still there were several moments in the history of shoes that clearly put us on the path to the style and design that resulted in the Clarks Wallabees that we see today, and although they don't really look very similar, the Egyptian sandal can be seen as one of the shoes that predates the ones that we are familiar with in these modern times. A relief from the palace at Nimrod shows clearly the king wearing a pair of sandals that are very similar to the ones that we can buy today, and although the earliest forms of foot covering were designed solely for protection, it wasn't long before the need for social standing filtered down to the kind of boot that a person wore. In his tomb, even King Tutankhamen had several pair of sandals.

All this is the partial history of shoe, but more importantly it shows how important it's been to cover your feet with something fashionable and long lasting well before the Clarks Wallabees ever came out with their first shoe.
